Do what’s been Given to be Done

So, last night I had a bit of a sleepless night. Not sure why. I think I’d been looking at Instagram, I’m just slightly obsessed, and not comparing myself to others or being envious per se, but just looking at all the beautiful pictures and thinking “what an exotic/fabulous/elegant life they must have! What must it be like to be them?” Oh! The love/hate relationship we all have with social media! 😉 I’ll just keep repeating to myself that Instagram is not real! Anyway, I was tossing and turning last night, sort of praying just about life and the people I need to pray for, and then my hometown Pastor’s words fell into my ears. He has always told us “Do what’s been given to be done.” As in: What has God given to you to do at this stage in your life? What gifts has He blessed you with? You’re supposed to simply take care of the blessings in your life, and do the work He’s given you. Use your talents out in the world, your gifts, and be a good steward of all you have.

There is so much peace in just doing what’s been given to be done. I’m not sure about you, but I think this is true for a lot of women (and men), we’re such good worriers! We get to worrying so much about the future, and getting wrapped up in worst case scenarios. It’s so very easy be anxious, but it does sort of melt away if we can just remember to do what God has given us to do today. Not tomorrow, not next month, but only today. (Gah! I feel a RENT reference coming on…No Day But Today! Amiright?) The Bible verse comes from 1 Corinthians 7:17

“Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.”

There are multiple other verses to support this life philosophy/mantra as well. But remembering my Pastors concise, clear words all of a sudden gave me such peace as I was fretting about some of my loved ones. I hope these words calm some of your fears and anxieties too.

Xx
